Mild showers to keep city cool for 3 days
The pleasant weather that light showers brought to the city on Tuesday is likely to continue for two or three days, the weatherman has said.
Chennai registered 10mm rain on Tuesday and winds reaching up to 12kmph made it better for people on the streets.“Scattered rain will continue for two or three days in Tamil Nadu and parts of Puducherry .The skies will be generally cloudy . There might be thunder showers in a few areas,“ said a duty officer at the Regional Meteorological Centre. The met official attributed the sudden showers to the formation of a depression, but there is no warning of severe weather.
Some areas in the city including Nandanam and Sardar Patel Road saw mild water-logging. Several netizens took to social media to report mild to medium showers with breeze and water-logging in Mylapore, Thiruvanmiyur, Sembakkam, Guindy and Mogappair.Naveen Prasad, a Twitter, user posted pictures of rain lashing Mylapore. The maximum temperature was 34 degrees Celsius, while the minimum hovered around 27.4 degrees. The met department has predicted Wednesday’s maximum and minimum temperature to be around 35 degrees and 27 degrees.
Nilgiris district received the highest rainfall of 5cm followed by Kancheepuram, which received 4cm. Udagamandalam received 3cm of rainfall. Gudalar in the Nilgiris and Valparai have declared a holiday for schools on Wednesday . Tamil Nadu received 58.7mm of rainfall for the month against the normal of 44.3mm, a surplus of 33%.
