Doctors In Kerala On Mass Leave Today: The doctors of Kerala will be on a mass leave today as part of their ongoing hunger strike demanding implementation of long-standing demands.
Doctors in Health service of Kerala will be on a mass leave today to intensify the ongoing protest demanding the govt to implement their long-standing demands. The doctors will organise a dharna at district headquarters and in front of the Secretariat.
The decision to take a mass leave comes after KGMOA president S. Pramila Devi’s health condition deteriorated while she was undertaking an indefinite hunger strike in front of the Secretariat since Wednesday morning. Pramila Devi collapsed suddenly and was rushed to the ICU of the General Hospital.
The doctors of KGMOA started their agitation a week ago alleging that the Health Minister has not kept his promises on assurances that had been given to the doctors on various issues.
However a statement that was issued by the minister on Wednesday said that the doctors were unnecessarily going on strike and that their demands had already been addressed by the government.
Various demands have been made by the doctors to the state government including filling vacancies, revising posts as per rules, revision of night duty, regularizing duty hours, etc.
The doctors were also against the government’s policy of converting well-functioning district and general hospitals into medical college hospitals in an unscientific manner.
The KGMOA has alleged that the government is unable to create adequate posts of Casualty Medical Officers in district and taluk hospitals.
The Doctors warned that they would intensify the agitation if their demands were not fulfilled in the coming days.
