Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu on Fri day ruled out creation of new districts in Andhra Pradesh.“There is no need for new districts in the state,“ he told the media here.
AP has 13 districts and the last time a new district was created was in 1979 when Vizianagaram district was carved out. Naidu was responding when a reporter pointed out that the Telangana government had proposed to create new districts for better administration.
The chief minister has been camping in Anantapur for the last four days reviewing the drought mitigation programmes in different parts of Rayalaseema. He said that the government will extend the `rain-gun’ programme to all such areas. The first phase concluded on Friday with the government covering about four lakh acres through micro-irrigation.
“We could save standing crops through the rain-gun technology . It is a revolutionary step. We will encourage farmers to use rain guns for optimum use of water and high yields,“ Naidu said.
