`Local status’ file reaches President
The Union government has reportedly cleared the file pertaining to the grant of local status to government employees who will move to Andhra Pradesh before June 2, 2017. The Prime Minister’s Office has sent the file to the Rashtrapati Bhavan for the presidential assent.
The AP government, last week, wrote a letter to the Centre urging it to speed up the process. The state has fixed June 2, 2017 as the deadline for the grant of the local status. All those settling down in AP before the deadline will be considered as locals for purpose of government jobs and admission in educational institutions.
Granting of local status is one of the major demands of the AP government employees. AP has directed all its employees working in secretariat and heads of departments in Hyderabad to shift to Amaravati by June 27. Employees are worried that they will lose the local status once they leave Hyderabad.
