Sources said chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who was earlier in favour of creating Hanamkonda district, was beginning to agree with the argument that two district headquarters of Warangal and Hanamkonda would be barely a few km away from each other, which is not the advisable thing to do.
“Instead of Hanamkonda, Warangal Rural is expected to be one of the new districts, while there would be some small changes in the contours of the other three new ones to be carved out of the existing Warangal district,“ said district TRS president T Ravinder Rao.
“However, nothing has been finalized as yet since the procedure for district reorganization is underway . The government will take the final call based on the popular sen timent and in accordance with administrative interest,“ Ravinder Rao said.
However, any changes in the draft notification are likely to be limited to Warangal district as the government is in no mood to accede to the demand for according district status to Janagaon (now in Warangal), Gadwal (Mahbubnagar), and Sircilla (Karimnagar). Also, the number of proposed 27 districts is unlikely to change.
In an indication to this effect, the planning department on Wednesday released Rs 1 crore to each of the proposed new districts to meet the expenditure on logistics, furniture, computer periphe rals, communication systems and other unforeseen expenditure. The amount released was Rs 26 crore, while the government order (GO RT No 609) said the fund released was meant for all districts except Hyderabad.
