`Made in AP’ products to flood markets soon
The state government has embarked on an ambitious programme to market as many as 200 products with the `made in Andhra’ label. These products will be introduced in phases. To begin with, over two dozen `made in Andhra’ products will be marketed through specially designed retail shops at all cities and major towns in the state.
The government’s move follows a project report submitted by the Malaysia-based Performance Management and Delivery Unit (PEMANDU) on the potentiality of the retail sector in the state. The state government has proposed to market 200 local products by 2021. Selfhelp groups and micro, small and medium enterprises will be part of the programme. The products include food, agriculture, handicrafts, industrail etc. As many as 25 made in AP products will be available soon. Another two dozen will be added by 2018.
About 100 products will be sold through the proposed outlets by 2019. All these products will be certified by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), and other standards organisations. The government has proposed to set up district collection centres to improve the quality of products including better packaging, labelling and bar-coding techniques. Such centres will come up in Visakhapatnam, Krishna and Chittoor districts. They will collect products from SHGs. There will also be a marketing facilitation centre to facilitate business matching between participating retailers and suppliers. About two lakh SHG members will be trained.
Retail parks have been proposed at Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Tirupati. The retail parks will have entertainment zones including cinema halls and game centres. Similarly, semi urban retail parks will be set up in small towns. Labour laws will be modified suitably to enable operation of these retail outlets round the clock. The government will also increase the limit of the stocks of essential commodities.
