The Telangana govern ment on Sunday an nounced an overseas scholarship scheme for students of backward classes (BCs).

Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday cleared the scheme named after Mahatma Jyothi Rao Pule.

Under the new scheme, students from BC communities will get scholarship up to Rs 20 lakh for their studies abroad. This is on the lines of the existing overseas scholarship schemes for SC and ST students.

According to an official release here, the Telangana government will release Rs 60 crore for this financial year benefiting about 300 backward class students.
