Early monsoon? Rains may hit Andamans in 3-4 days
The India Meteorological Department has predicted an early onset of the southwest monsoon this year and has said that it would reach the Andaman and Nicobar islands in the next three or four days. According to the Met offi ce, a low pressure trough will develop over south Bay of Bengal and south Andaman Sea, which will be favourable for the onset of the monsoon.
The department’s formal forecast of the monsoon’s onset over the Indian main land, starting from Kerala, is expected in two-three days.
IMD said its prediction about monsoon hitting the Andamans was based on parameters such like depth of westerlies over the region, wind flow pattern, rainfall distribution and outgoing long-wave radiation.
