The Telangana police have bagged the highest number of police medals for gallantry in the country . Two policemen, who were gunned down by fugitive gangsters in Nalgonda district, were awarded the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry (PPMG), while 24 officials, including two deputy inspectors-general (DIGs) from the youngest state, have been awarded the Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG), mainly for exceptional counter terror and antiMaoist operations.

Of the seven PPMG announced this year, two were bagged by two Nalgonda police officials -sub-inspector (SI) Dudekula Siddaiah and constable Ch Nagaraju -who were shot dead by fugitive criminals in Nalgonda district in April 2015 -have been awarded the Medal for Gallantry posthumously .

Twenty-four police officials of Telangana, most of them working with anti-terror and antiMaoist cells, have been awarded the Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG). Deputy inspector-general (DIG), Counter Intelligence (CI) Cell, Rajesh Kumar, DIG, Warangal, T Prabhar Rao, addito nal SP M Chandra Sekhar, DSP M Daya nanda Reddy , inspectors K Ravinder Reddy , A Chinna Bala Gangi Reddy , Ch RV Phaneendar, V Bhaskar, RSI G Satya narayana, ASI Soni Lal Amrit, head constables Syed Sarwar Pasha, Syed Ab dul Kareem, Md Mujeeb, Md Taj Pasha, constables S Rajvardhan Reddy , Md Musharaf Baba, N Anil Kumar, V Ramesh, K Madhusudhan, T Shiva Koteswara Rao, M Srinu, L Janaki Ram, G Narender and Md Quader. Among the 24 cops who were awarded PMG, 16 are from Counter Intelligence cell and the rest from Special Intelligence Branch (SIB) and the Nalgonda district police. “The central government has recognised the exceptional work done by state police CI cell, especially in clipping ISIS activities in the nascent stage and gave 16 PMGs,“ a top intelligence official said.

The Telangana police bagged the highest number of PMGs among the state police units. Eleven more cops from the state were awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service, while director-general (DG), Fire Services, Rajiv Ratan was awarded the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service. Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao congratulated the state cops for the medal haul.
