The city is all set to receive Olympic silver medal winner P V Sindhu, who is arriving to a hero’s welcome on Monday .
A stretch of more than 20 km from the international airport to the city will witness a historic roadshow with fans expected to line up in thousands to greet the `silver star’.
The Telangana government has made elaborate arrangements for a state felicitation at Gachibowli stadium, where Sindhu will take a victory lap amid playing of patriotic songs by a police band. After the felicitation, she will meet chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at his camp office, who has announ ced a reward of Rs 5 crore, a 1,000-yard house plot, and a government job.
Authorities said 58 welcome arches are being erected throughout the procession route and numerous billboards hailing the badminton ace have been put up en route.The GHMC has roped in several corporates to put up the hoardings. The Acharya Jai Shankar University of Agri cultural Sciences at Aramgarh has installed a huge hoarding of Sindhu at its main gate.
“It is going to be an event to remember for its grandeur and historic significance,“ said Talasani Srinivas Yadav, a cabinet minister, who is overseeing the arrangements for Sindhu’s reception. The GHMC, district collectorates of Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy, Sports Authority of Telangana, and Telangana State Olympic Association have come together to organise a grand state reception and felicitation for Sindhu, who brought cheers to 1.3 billion Indians by winning the badminton silver medal at the Rio Olympics.
