Khairatabad Ganesh to be 58 ft
Ignoring the Hyderabad High Court’s advisory on restricting the height of Ganesh idols to 15 feet, the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi (BGUS), on Wednesday refused to play ball and announced there would be a 58-ft idol in Khairatabad.
On July 18 this year, the court had said that it is the duty of authorities to sensitise people about the need to have smaller idols. Even Lord Ganesha would not like his height to hinder development work, the bench of former acting Chief Justice Dilip B Bhosale and Justice A V Sesha Sai had said.
But BGUS said it would go ahead with its plans as religion is a fundamental right of every citizen.“Ganesh Chaturthi has always been a special festival for the people of the city, the restrictions are just given as an advisory not orders, so we will go ahead with the tallest idol in the city ,“ said Bhagwanth Rao, president, BGUS.
