Avoid plastic national flags: Govt to states
As countrymen get ready to hoist and wave the tricolour at various events to mark Independence Day, the Union home ministry has, in an advisory to all states, asked them to ensure that the use of flags made of non-biodegradable plastic is avoided and that all paper flags are disposed of with dignity.
Directing the states to organise mass awareness programmes to ensure strict compliance with the Flag Code of India, 2002, and Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971, the advisory calls for use of paper flags by the public. It stressed on the need to ensure that paper flags are not discarded or thrown on the ground after an event.
