One of the factors which will decide which way the Test series between India and South Africa would go will be how well the Proteas batsmen play the Indian spin trio of Ravichandran Ashwin, Amit Mishra and Ravindra Jadeja. Another interesting aspect of the Test series, which starts on November 5 here, would be the extent of spin the pitches take at the four venues -Mohali, Bangalore, Nagpur and Delhi.
Having defeated the Indian team in both the T20 and ODI series, the South African team is now expecting wickets that would turn from Day 1 itself. Middle-order mainstay Faf du Plessis made it clear that the visitors were looking to confront pitches that would be ‘worked’ to suit India’s strength as the hosts try to end the tour on a high.
“He (Ashwin) is definitely our main threat, but we will plan well. The way we play Ashwin will determine the outcome of this series,” du Plessis asserted.
About his own batting and how he will adjust to spinning conditions, du Plessis said that his ODI form will come in handy. “Before this series, I hadn’t played a single ODI series in India. Considering that, I did well. The pitches during the ODIs were also turning and I scored quite a good number of runs on them. I will have to continue from where I left in the ODIs,” du Plessis reasoned.
