Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated with great devotion on September 5, 2016 (Monday). Ganesh Chaturthi is on fourth day from the no-moon day in Bhadrapada (Aavani) month.
Celebration in Maharashtra:
In Maharashtra, especially Mumbai, Ganesh Utsav is celebrated for 10 days from Bhadrapad Shukla Chaturthi (Sep 5th, 2016) to Anant Chaturdashi (September 15, 2016- Thursday). There will be many Ganesh Mandals around the city with various themes.
In houses, devotes will do puja to clay idols of Lord Ganesha. After ten days of Puja, Ganesh Visarjan (immersion of idol – Nimajjan) takes place on the 11th day.
In Temples, special homam like Maha Ganapathi homam, Sahasra Modaka homan, Chintamani Mahaganapathi Aganda Mahayagam will be held.
Maha Abhishekam will be done to Sri Ganesh amidst chanting of Vedas. Special prasad called Modak will be offered to god.
Special Alankaram like Santhana kaapu (Sandal), Thanga kavasa kappu (Gold – Svarn), Poo (flower) alankaram etc., will be done to Lord Ganesh.
Laksharachanai and Mahadeeparadhanai will follow. Utsava Murthi will bless devotees in Mushika Vahana along the mada veethis of temple
Prasad and Flowers List:
Prasad offered to Lord Ganesh includes sweet modakkam, ulundu moddakam, sundal, appam, aval, pori, el urundai, sugarcane, grapes, banana, apple and other fruits to Lord Ganesh.
Archana is done by offering lotus, durva, arugam pul, erukkam poo, jasmine, arali, and other flowers
