Display and design
The Gionee Marathon M5 smartphone offers a 5.5-inch AMOLED display with an HD resolution. It sports a metal-finish unibody design, and has a thickness of 8.5mm with the outer rim measuring 4.75mm. The Marathon M5 will be available in black, white and gold variants.
Configuration and UI
The Gionee Marathon M5 is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6735 processor, aided by 2GB of RAM. It runs Android Lollipop out of the box with Gionee’s proprietary Amigo UI on top.
Camera, storage and connectivity
For photography, the Marathon M5 packs a 13MP rear shooter with an LED flash. It also equips a 5MP front snapper for video calling and selfies. For storage, it has 16GB of internal memory, which is expandable up to 128GB via microSD. In terms of connectivity, the dual-SIM 4G-enabled smartphone supports both FDD and TDD.
The Marathon M5 is equipped with dual 650Wh/L 3010mAh + 3010mAh battery cells, making it a total of 6,020mAh. The device comes with a Dark theme for advanced power management, and a Power Extreme mode with background apps management, which can deliver 62 hours of standby with just five percent of battery remaining. The smartphone also comes with fast charge technology thanks to the dual charging chips. The phone offers two days of regular usage, and lasts four days for normal users. It also works as a power bank to charge other devices via USB OTG.
The Gionee Marathon M5 is a bit expensive when compared to the competing devices, but well justifies the price tag with a stylish outfit and smart power management features. Despite housing such a large battery, Gionee has managed to keep the smartphone thin, which is appreciable. It is a perfect smartphone if you travel a lot, or hate charging your smartphone every now and then.
