The J&K Government has constituted a ‘high level expert team’ to promote the floriculture as a major commercial sector in the state.

The focus of the government is to boost the sector enabling it to generate employment for the youth in the state as also will promote Kashmir as one of the best quality flower producing destinations in the country, Secretary Tourism and Floriculture, Farooq A Shah said today

Shah is the chairman of the team which has National Horticulture Board, APEDA, Agro Industries Development Corporation, Central Institute of Temperate Horticulture, SKUAST, NABARD as its representatives, and some progressive floriculture entrepreneurs as members.

Shah said the expert committee shall lay a framework for establishment of floriculture as an industry in the state. He said the committee shall suggest measures for mass cultivation of cut flowers to be marketed at national and international levels.

Shah said the floriculture policy in Jammu and Kashmir was in the offing
