Severe rains and hailstorm on Sunday evening caused extensive damage to the standing crops in many villages in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
Farmers said there was huge damage to standing crops particularly paddy crops. As per the farmers, the worst hit areas were Gutlibagh, Chahnhaar, Kawbagh, Wayil, Wayil wooder, Serch, Wurpash and some other areas in Kangan.
Meanwhile, sources said, a mysterious disease has hit the paddy crop in several areas of Ganderbal district. “It has caused huge concern among the farmers,” they said.
The areas were the paddy crop has been affected by the disease are Manigam, Benhama, Watlar, Lar Repora and few areas of Kangan.
The farmers have sought compensation for the losses suffered and appealed the department concerned to send an official team for assessment of losses in the area.
