Jammu and Kashmir Government has submitted a fresh proposal to Union Petroleum Ministry for shifting of oil depots from populated area of Jammu city to an alternate site on its outskirts.

Sources said the state government has identified about 1000 kanals of state land in Bajalta area of Jammu to shift the depots of oil companies presumed to be a potential security risk.

They said that shifting of depot has also been planned from Leh, where a chunk of land has been identified away from the main town area.

Pertinently, the earlier proposal to shift the Depot to Barian in Samba was shelved at the final stage of the implementation after locals of the area raised the concern about the risk involved in having such an installation in the vicinity.
