45 Indians Reportedly Killed In Haj Stampede: The number of Indians killed in the Haj stampede reached to 45 after the authorities have identified 10 more bodies.
The death toll of Indians in the Haj tragedy had been rose to 45 after the authorities had discovered 10 more bodies of Indians on Monday.
The deceased included three pilgrims from West Bengal and two each from Kerala and Jharkhand and one each from Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra according to the report received by Haj consulate in Jedda.
The death toll of Indians earlier stood at 35 after the Saudi authorities recovered 10 bodies of Indians on Sunday.
The total death toll from the stampede during haj is kept at 769 by the Saudi Govt. The number of injured stands at 934 and it is reported that atleast 13 Indians were among those injured.
The Ministry of External affairs were continuously reviewing the situation and making efforts to bring the dead bodies of victims to India.
A committee had been formed based on the order of King Salman to investigate the deadly Haj tragedy during the five-day pilgrimage in which around two million people from over 180 countries took part. From India, 1.5 lakh pilgrims performed haj.
Last Thursday a stampede has taken place at the Holy city of Muslims Mecca. The incident occurred as a result of large groups of people came at a time from different directions at an intersection close to the five-storey Jamarat Bridge in Mina to perform the ritual of ‘stoning a devil’ and got stamped. This stampede is the second major accident this year for pilgrims.

Haj is one of the five pillars of Islam that should be performed at least once in a lifetime by every Muslim who is financially and physically capable.
