To avoid further hassles in procuring documents on a student’s place of birth, the state government on Wednesday issued a resolution directing the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education to mention it in the secondary school examination certificate.

This, stated the government resolution (GR), will stay with students as proof.

While the school leaving certificate of students too mentions place of birth along with the date, it has to be submitted for admissions to junior colleges. Later, they do not have the leaving certificate handy for documentation. The SSC certificate, with place of birth, will stay with them and can be used as proof for applying for domicile, passport, to appear for a competitive exam or even to apply for a government job.

Students used to submit affidavits to schools for a duplicate leaving certificate, the resolution stated.

The principal of a suburban school said mentioning place of birth on the SSC certificate could prove helpful as students struggle to get admissions in professional courses after class XII.
