In a last-ditch effort to woo Patidars, the Gujarat government withdrew last week almost 95% of the cases lodged against them during and after their agitation in 2015.
Deputy chief minister Nitin Patel recently said that out of the 438 cases registered during the Patidar agitation, 416 have been withdrawn. “We have also decided to withdraw the remaining cases registered against the Patidars. The government is having a sympathetic view towards the Patidar community ,“ Patel had said.
According to police sources, cases of violence, arson and assaults on police were registered against the Patidars during their agitation for reservation in jobs under the OBC quota. “Out of these, the police were complainant in 230 cases on behalf of the government,“ said a senior police official.
Sources said that the process for withdrawing the remaining cases, which are not serious in nature, will be initiated before Diwali.
