UP’s biggest tourist destination, Agra, would start getting direct international flights from February 2017. Taj City’s Kheria airport was given a go-ahead for its upgrading after a high-level meeting on Tuesday .
UP chief secretary Deepak Singhal told on Tuesday that along with top officials of defence ministry and civil aviation departmen, he inspected the Kheria airport which at present is used by the IAF and the civil aviation department for civilian and commercial purposes.
After the inspection, Singhal had a meeting in Delhi on Sunday with the defence ministry and civil aviation representatives to finalise modalities of upgrading it into an international airport.
“Around 50 acres land will be required to upgrade the airstrips and terminals and UP government has agreed to bear the cost,“ said the chief secretary .
He said the newly constructed Agra-Lucknow expressway would be an added advantage to those arriving at or departing from the international airport.
