IIT Professors Arrested In Bridge Collapse Case: In connection with a bridge collapse case which claimed lives of eight, two professors of IIT Roorkee have been arrested by IIT Roorkee.
wo professors of IIT Roorkee have been held by the police in connection with a bridge collapse case in Tehri district and which claimed the lives of eight people three years ago.
According to the sources Haridwar SSP Sweety Agarwal said that two professors Vipul Prakash and Vijay Kumar Gupta working for IIT Roorkee for the department of Civil Engineering have been arrested from their houses at civil line area yesterday evening.
A non Bailable Warrant have been issued against the professors recently after failing to attend the court.
Previously before three years a Bridge which was under construction over river Alaknanda at Chauras of Tehri district has been collapsed while being built in the year 2012 claiming the lives of eight people including a Junior Engineer.
A case under section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and section 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) had been registered against unidentified persons, three construction companies and the Public Works Department after the incident.
Additional Superintendent of Police in the police headquarters Mamta Vohra said that the reports that were submitted by several committees which were set-up to look into the collapse of the bride [called the Chauras bridge] raised questions on the material used in the construction of the bridge, and on its design.
The professors were said to be designed the plan of the Bridge and hence they were asked to appear before the court.But both of them failed to do so and a NBW has been issued against them.
Recently on last Thursday the owners of the Bridge construction company have also been arrested by the police.
