Jayalalithaa Inaugurates Govt Medical College: Cheif Minister of Tamil Nadu J Jayalalithaa has inaugurated a Govt Medical college worth Rs 200 crores.
Jayalalithaa has inaugurated a Govt medical college which was established at a cost of Rs 200 crore in the state. This is the 20th medical colleges in the state and the first in the Chennai after 1960. It was located at Omandurar Govt estate and it is fully air conditioned.
Besides this new college the city has three other government medical colleges Madras Medical College, Stanley Medical College and Kilpauk Medical College.
The college was inaugurated by Jayalalithaa through a video conferencing from the state secretariat.
During the last four years the number of MBBS seats in the state had increased by 710 which now stands at 2,655.
Around 410 new appointments for teaching staff, doctors and other medical staff have been made with this new college. A total of Rs 12.24 crore has been allocated to procure medical equipment for the college.
With a view to improve the infrastructure facilities of the government hospitals nephrology unit, neurology unit, neo-natal ICU unit, and orthopaedics unit have been established at a cost of Rs 3.77 crore. A micro-biology lab has also been opened by CM at the Government General Hospital.
Multiple new buildings for the Health Department constructed at a cost of Rs 107.48 crore across the State have also been inaugurated by Jayalalithaa on Monday and she also laid foundation for structures to be built at an expenditure of Rs 159.30 crore.
The Tamil Nadu Multi-Super Speciality Hospital with 400 beds was also inaugurated last year in the Government Estate.
