In the wake of the Mahadayi water+ tribunal verdict going against Karnataka, pro-Kannada organisations and the Kannada film industry called for a Karnataka bandh on Saturday, July 30, 2016.
According to reports, the tribunal has rejected the interim petition for releasing 7.5 tmc ft. of water to Karnataka.
Kannada Okkoota, a forum of pro-Kannada organisations, led by Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha leader Vatal Nagaraj, requested citizens to co-operate and make the bandh a complete success. He said though the bandh is on Saturday, the fight for justice has already begun.
Sa Ra Govindu, president, Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, said the Kannada film industry has extended full support for the bandh and they’ll ensure that all film industry activities will be shut down in support of the struggle by farmers of North Karnataka.
