Counting of votes for the local body elections in Kerala began at 244 centres across the state on Saturday morning. Polling was held at 1,199 three-tier local bodies on November 2 and 5.
Elections were held for 1199 local bodies, which includes 941 village panchayats, 152 block panchayats, 14 district panchayats, 86 municipalities and 6 corporations.
Even though state politics have been dominated by factions led by the Congress and the CPI(M), this time the entry of the BJP has made the fight a three-cornered one
Just to give you a break-down of the trends across some of the districts:
Kannur corporation – 13 wards for LDF, 12 wards for UDF
Kochi corporation – 21 wards for LDF, 11 wards for UDF, 7 wards for BJP
Wayanad municipality – 2 wards for LDF, 1 ward for UDF
Trivandrum municipality – All 4 wards for LDF
Kozhikode corporation – 21 wards for LDF, 6 wards for UDF, 2 wards for BJP
Trivandrum corporation – 21 wards for LDF, 13 wards for BJP, 10 wards for UDF
Thrissur corporation – 5 wards for LDF, 4 wards for UDF –
