Actor Sarath Kumar filed his nomination papers before the election officer in the closely watched and tightly contested Nadigar Sangam elections, which is to be held here on October 18.
While Sarath Kumar will contest for the post of president, veteran actor Vijay Kumar will contest for the post of vice-president.
This election has divided the influential association into two main groups after the incumbent office-bearers got into a contract with SPI Cinemas to privatise Nadigar Sangam’s 18-ground property. Actor Sarath Kumar is leading one group, while the other is led by actors Vishal, Nasser, Karthi and others.
Even though leading actors such as Kamal Haasan, Khushbu Sundar, Arya and many others have openly stated their support for a ‘change’, the incumbent office-bearers say that they are confident of a clear win because of the way they managed the affairs of the association over the last few years.
