Hardik Patel Detained, Released On Bail: The leader of Patel Quota agitation and PAAS convener Hardik Patel was arrested and later released on bail.
Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) convener Hardik Patel was arrested on Saturday and was later released on bail. The leader was arrested for not following the prohibitory orders given ahead of Ekta March demanding reservation for patels under OBC quota.
Besides Hardik 35 of his supporters were also detained from Varachha area in Surat and were produced in court which subsequently granted bail for them on a personal bond of Rs 1000 each.
An FIR was lodged against all of them under sec IPC 188 for defying the prohibitory orders of the Govt.
The arrest of Hardik Patel triggered for protests and high tension with some incidents of violence and clashes in the state.
People pelted stones and destroyed vehicles like public buses, a police van and other vehicles which triggered the forces to lathi charge and firing of tear gas shells to disperse the mob.
Streets were blocked, mobs blocked roads and highways causing disruption for transport. Areas like Surat, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Navsari, Mehsana, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Botad witnessed incidents of violence.
The authorities in order to control the situation have deployed state reserve police and para military forces and suspended Internet services on mobile across the State.
Hardik Patel on Friday visited Ganesh pandals in Surat’s Patel dominated ares and then he met the members of PAAS and subsequently announced they will begin Ekta March at 5:30 am on Saturday.
On Saturday at around 9:00 when he sought to begin the march after garlanding a Sardar Patel statue but immediately detained by police along with his associates Alpesh Katharia and Dinesh Patel.
