WR felicitates 29 brave RPF personnel
In November 2015, RPF constable Subhash Saroj was patrolling on the Bhayander-Naigaon stretch when he noticed that the dry bushes and grass along the tracks had caught fire. As water was not available nearby , Saroj informed his superiors and used soil to put out the flames.
On Independence Day , Western Railway divisional railway manager awarded Saroj and 28 other RPF staffers who either came to the rescue of passengers or protected railway property .
“Since January , 88 chain-snatchers, pickpockets and cellphone thieves were nabbed on WR. In 2015, the number of arrests stood at 93,“ said Anand Vijay Jha, senior divisional security commissioner, RPF , WR.
This year, RPF personnel solved 265 cases of lost baggage that contained valuables worth a total of Rs 49.6 lakh. In 2015, the RPF had cracked 99 such cases.
Officials added that this year, the RPF rescued over 220 abandoned, runaway or missing children and handed them over to their parents, with the help of NGOs.
