Surjya likely to lead Left’s poll battle from the front
The pressure is building up on CPM Bengal secretary Surjya Kanta Mishra to lead Left Front’s assembly poll battle from the front.
At CPM’s state secretariat meeting on Sunday , a reluctant Mishra had to accede to his party leaders’ wishes, but made it clear that should he contest, it would be from West Midnapore’s Narayangarh. The development came ahead of the state committee meeting on Monday , in which the first list of candidates is likely to be firmed up.
If Mishra leads the opposition charge, it would be a break from tradition. Former state party secretaries Promode Dasgupta, Saroj Mukherjee, Anil Biswas and Biman Bose have never contested polls.
