Prisoners Attack On Jailers in Chennai: Five jail wardens have been attacked by a mob of prisoners at the Central jail of Puzhal on Friday evening.
A mob of inmates attacked on five jail wardens in the central jail of Puzhal in Chennai on Friday evening. The prisoners also detained two officials for five hours and released them after a prolonged negotiations by deputy inspector general AG Maurya and DIG (Prisons) S Rajendran.
According to the sources five officials along with the jail warden who were appointed to check the use of mobile phones by the prisoners were attacked by a mob of inmates reportedly belonging to Al-Umma operatives attacked on the officials with iron rods and sharp ended instruments for being continuously prevented to use mobile in the prison.
There are 19 inmates attacked on officials out of some were identified as suspected Al-Umma operatives Bilal Malik, Panna Ismail, S ‘Police’ Fakruddin and Mannadi Abdullah, had been detained in the high security block that is close to block 1. Malik and Ismail were arrested in October 2013 from Puthur in Andhra Pradesh reportedly after a gun battle over 2011 Advani pipe bomb case.
The mob dragged the warden Muthumani out f his place and beat him severely. On hearing the mourn of the warden the officials Ilavarasan, Kumar, Ravi and Mohan rushed to his side. The prisoners locked Kumar and Ravi in one of the cells for five hours and released them on the negotiation of the higher officials.
Meanwhile the officials including a jailer were taken to the Stanley medical college in the city on Friday night and jail warden Muthumani is admitted in a multi-speciality hospital in the city.
A fresh case had been registered on the inmates who have attacked n the officials based on the statement given by jail warden.
