Illayathalapathy Vijay’s ‘Puli’ may have been getting mixed to negative reviews from critics and social media users, but the films seems to have caught the fancy of women and children , thus garnering a box office receipt of close to Rs. 50 crores in the opening weekend worldwide. It has been a great year for fantasy period films.
After SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali went all guns blazing and conquered the box office, setting a plethora of records tumbling, it is now turn for yet another highly anticipated fantasy film to rule the roost at box office.
Critics and social media fans may have panned ‘Puli’ but that has not affected its box office results as the fantasy adventure has become the second highest grosser in the opening weekend after Shankar’s ‘I’ proving the might of Illayathalapathy Vijay as a crowd puller.
Unofficial trade figures show that ‘Puli’ has collected 64crores worldwide with Tamil Nadu alone accounting for 30 Crores. With no other major film releasing in the following two weeks industry pundits believe that the film could cross the 100 crore market.
