Rajasthan High Court on Wednesday taking suo motu cognizance on the illegal functioning of study centres of many private state deemed universities outside the state and awarding degrees through distance education has issued notices to the Union HRD ministry , state government, registrar and V-C of Mahatma Gandhi University Meghalaya and secretary UGC among others.
The single bench of Justice MN Bhandari issued the notice during the hearing of a petition by one Bhawanlal Rana challenging his rejection to the job of information assistant in state government after the state government refused to accept his qualification of PGDCA obtained thro ugh distance education from the Mahatma Gandhi University, Meghalaya. The court while dismissing his petition took suo motu cognizance of the number of such state private universities functioning outside their state and steps taken regulate their operations.
The court asked the additional Solicitor general to furnish the information with six weeks.
