After the mass death of bovines in state-run Hingonia cow centre, the government will rope in private player for its operation and maintenance. In this regard principal approval has been given to join hands with Akshaya Patra Foundation, which is the world’s largest non-profit organisation providing mid-day meal to 1.6 million children every day in India.
“Principal approval to sign a memorandum of understanding ( MoU) with Akshaya Patra Foundation has been given by the state government. Final decision in this regard will be taken soon. The NGO will oversee the operations and maintenance of the cow cantre. Clauses of MoU are yet to be decided,“ a UDH officer said. The decision has been taken as death of cows continues to rise despite the deployment of officials from three departments.
On August 11, after the district administration took charge, efforts were made to improve the drainage system but all ended up in smoke.“The delay in providing medication to cows is becoming major reason of their deaths. Also, there is no proper clearance of carcasses and muck on time which spreads deadly virus,“ said a source. According to officials, 1,099 bovines died in July . Similarly , more than 900 cows died in August. The situation remains unchanged. A team of 17 veterinary doctors, two radiologists & engineering wing have been deployed at the Gaushala.
