Already facing a stiff competition from trains like Double Decker and Shatabdi Express between Jaipur and Delhi, the Rajasthan State Roadways Transport Corporation (RSRTC) is mulling over decreasing the fares for the Volvo and Scania buses on the route. Cheaper flights pegged at Rs 900 to Rs 13,000 to New Delhi have put a dent in the revenue of RSRTC on the Jaipur-Delhi and Delhi-Jaipur route.
Chief manager, Delux depot, recently wrote to senior authorities at RSRTC headquarters citing that the passenger load on the Jaipur-Delhi Volvo bus service has come down to 60% in the past three months. He has suggested that the fares for Jaipur to Delhi which start from Rs 600 and go upto Rs 900 per person for different categories of luxury buses, could be changed to Rs 500 and Rs 700, respectively.
Since July, some airlines have been offering Jaipur to Delhi flight service at as low as Rs 900 per person. “Even for October, if a ticket is booked a fortnight in advance, the tariff is around Rs 1,200. Likewise, people have an option of trains like Shatabdi Express and Double Decker, both of which have airconditioned chair car facility. It is high time that RSRTC should reduce its fares on the Jaipur-Delhi bus route,“ said Amrek Singh, a travel agent on Wednesday.
