Rajasthan among top 3 states with 90% people owning homes
When it comes to owning homes, Rajasthan ranks right among the top three states in the country, with 93.22% of the people in rural areas residing in their own houses.
Only 5.36% live in rented accommodation in rural areas, as per a submission made by the minister of state for housing and urban poverty, Rao Inderjit Singh, in the Upper House on Friday.
In Rajasthan’s urban areas, about 80.86% own homes, with only 16.93% residing in rented accommodation.
In three states in the country, namely Rajasthan, Bihar and UP, the overall ownership of houses is above 90%. Among major states, only Bihar and UP are above Rajasthan. In urban parts of UP, 82.2% own homes while the figure is 83% for Bihar. In rural areas, the figure is 98% for both these states.
Barring Jammu and Kashmir, Tripura and Manipur in the northeast, no other state has such high household ownership status.
