The Rajasthan government will provide plots to landless people for house construction under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). The state government has issued a letter for allotting vacant land to such beneficiaries.
As per the provisions of PMAY, those without home and land should be given priority over others in providing homes.
“It has been observed that in other housing schemes, those who do not own land are overruled for the next set of beneficiates with land. This, however, is not allowed in the PMAY. This scheme says that the government should allot some land so that the construction can be carried out,” said Sudarsan Sethi, principal secretary, rural development.
A total of 2,29,780 families have been identified in the state which fall under the category of landless.
Among all the districts, Nagaur has the maximum 22,451 landless families while Banswara has 21,721, Dholpur 18,697, Chittorgarh 13,688 and Bharatpur has 12,104 landless families.
Due to land crunch, the government is planning to allot plots from the grazing land of villages. The expected size of the plot will be 30-50 yards. Along with one room, the house will have a toilet facility.
