Ravi Shastri former Indian Cricketer an acting director for India since Aug 2014, Now his role as director is extended till the upcoming World Twenty20 at home country by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday.
He represented Indian team in Test and ODI in 1981-92. The biggest achievement was when he is elected for Champion of Champions in the World Championship of Cricket in Australia in 1985.
Shastri has strong support from assistant coaches Sanjay Bangar (batting), Bharat Arun (bowling) and Ramakrishnan Sridhar (fielding). India doesn’t have coach after Duncan Fletcher when India defeat in World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
“Based on the recommendations of the Cricket Advisory Committee, the BCCI has extended the appointment of Mr. Ravi Shastri as the Team director of the Indian Cricket Team till the ICC World T20 2016,” the board said in a statement.” BCCI took this decision before Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman. BCCI thinking in a way after winning the Test Series against Srilanka after 22 years with Virat Kohli’s captaincy under the direction of Shastri.
“BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya and Honorary Secretary Anurag Thakur appreciated the work done by the coaching staff and accepted the decision unanimously.”
In early 1987, Shastri represented a 15-minute coaching series which is titled as ‘That’s Cricket’. It was aired on the national channel Doordarshan. There were even rumours of an involvement with actress Amrita Singh.
Shastri announced his retirement in September 1994 while in Sri Lanka covering the Singer World Series. He also received the Celebrity Torchbearer for the Oman Leg of the 2008 Summer Olympics torch relay.
