16 trains cancelled, some diverted :
As many as 16 trains have been cancelled and a few trains diverted and partially cancelled due to water overflowing above the danger level on Railway Bridge No. 167 between Tada and Sullurpet stations on Gudur-Chennai section and bank slip between Yellakaru and Venkatagiri stations and Vendodu – Kondagu-nta stations in Nellore district on Tuesday.
The breaches on the national highway near Manubolu and cancellation of trains caused innumerable problems to commuters. However, one track towards Chennai was restored on Tuesday afternoon, paving the way for five express trains that were stranded in different stations to proceed to Che-nnai. The trains were Viv-ek Express from Rajendra Nagar to Kanyakumari, Howrah to Villipuram, Bikaner to Chennai, How-rah to Chennai Corama-ndal Express and Garib Rath from New Delhi to Chennai.
Kerala Express bound for Trivandrum from New Delhi is also now being run on the regular route up to Gudur. Railway station manager of Nellore, Mr Anthony Jayraj, said that one line towards Renigunta from Gudur was also likely to be ready by Tuesday night.
He said that they had distributed 2,000 food packets to passengers. The administration also dispatched 3,500 food packets and 10,000 water sachets to the Gudur railway station.
A passenger special from Gudur to Vijayaw-ada was being operated for the benefit of passengers stranded in Gudur.
