Electricity consumption has reduced at three railway stations in Pune with the installation of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) in place of conventional lights.
Railway authorities on Wednesday said they have installed LEDs at Pune, Talegaon and Shivajinagar stations, which has helped in reducing the daily con sumption by 100KW and lead to savings worth Rs 15,000 a day .
The administration is now planning to install LEDs at Chinchwad and Khadki railway stations. “We are taking elaborate steps to ensure that elec tricity is saved with the use of LEDs,“ divisional railway manager of Pune B K Dadabhoy said.
Dadabhoy said besides the use of LEDs, the administration has also almost completed the instal lation of solar panels at Pune sta tion. The system will generate about 250 units of power a day.
