Chief minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik on Monday announced his party’s mega plan for second round of agitation on Mahanadi and Polavaram issues, starting with a signature campaign from November 11. Opposition political parties, the BJP and the Congress, were quick to point out that Naveen had developed cold feet on seeking legal recourse in the matter while getting indulged in narrow politics to reap political dividends in the coming panchayat elections.
A memorandum containing the signatures will be submitted to the President. Addressing his party MPs, MLAs and office-bearers here at a preparatory meet for the signature campaign followed by a human chain, Naveen blasted the Centre for turning a deaf ear to the grievances of poor tribals in Odisha. “It is unfortunate that the Odisha tribals’ (to be affected by Polavaram) plight has failed to move the (Modi) government that talks of inclusive growth,” Naveen said.
