The government has decided to conduct a reality check of school buildings in unsafe or dilapidated conditions across the state in the wake of the death of a school girl in wall collapse in Sakhigopal village on Thursday. Official sources said unsafe structures in the vicinity of schools will also be identified and demolished
“The tragic incident in Sakhigopal was an eye opener for us. We must be alert and take necessary steps to avoid such mishaps further. We are planning to conduct a survey on the conditions of private and government school buildings at the earliest and take steps to demolish those which are unsafe,” said director elementary education, Chudamani Seth.
The government has set a deadline of April 2017 for private schools to update their infrastructure as per the guidelines set under the Right To Education (RTE ) Act to obtain no-objection certificates from the state government. “Schools without proper building infrastructure will not be given NOCs,” a senior officer in school and mass education department said.
