After ignoring the opposition plea to hold an all-party meeting on Mahanadi water dispute, chief minister Naveen Patnaik here on Monday said he is open to their suggestions.
“I welcome any suggestion from individuals, voluntary organizations and political parties on this issue,” Naveen said. It is for the first time the ruling regional party tried to reach out to the opposition on the Mahanadi water sharing dispute, after unilaterally undertaking series of agitations, rail roko of Chhattisgarh-bound trains and sending a party team to the neighbouring state to assess the ground situation in the past two months.
Opposition political parties see this as an afterthought of Naveen to escape any blame of not heeding to their suggestions in case the government’s stand on the issue is found wanting during the tripartite meeting.
