A colourful carnival, bicycle rally, surprise gifts and unprivileged children walking the ramps marked the beginning of festivals for children here on Monday. Chief minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated Suravi, the state-level function. Naveen said it is a matter of pride that dropout rates are falling in the state.
As many as 2,800 children from across the state are participating in the fun-filled dance, music, pottery, balloon art, terracotta, mask making, theatre, sand art workshops and magic shows. There are also a book fair and a science exhibition. “I got to learn so many new things in the festival and made new friends. Would participate again next year,” said Sukanti Pradhan, a Class VII student from Phulbani.
