Pune’s wait for monsoons could soon be over with the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy pre-monsoon showers from Saturday (June 18), which could lead them to declaring the onset of monsoons in the state.
The monsoon onset is likely to be declared either on June 19 or on June 20.
The rainfall could be fairly widespread, covering over 75 per cent of the state, weather officials said.
On Thursday, the Met department said conditions were favourable for further advance of the southwest monsoon in the state. “There should be good rainfall after June 18 and the increased rainfall activity can help us declare monsoon onset in the state,” said Sunita Devi, director (weather central) at the IMD.
