In the wake of the fire mishap in SUM hospital in the city that so far claimed more than 20 lives, the state government has removed it from among the list of empaneled hospitals. SUM hospital was among the list of 12 private hospitals in Odisha empanelled under the Odisha State Treatment Fund (OSTF) that assures financial assistance from the state government to poor patients suffering from life threatening diseases and also for treatment of major ailments.

“In the wake of the fire incident in IMS & SUM hospital on October 17 and disarray in the treatment of patients in your hospitals, it has been decided by the state government to de-empanel your hospital with immediate effect,” said an official letter issued by P C Mohapatra, director, medical education and training to the medical superintendent of the SUM hospital.
