Thousands of teachers under the banner of Odisha Sikshya Sahayak Association on Monday staged a massive rally in front of the state assembly seeking fulfillment of their four-point charter of demands. Major demand of more than 62,000 Sikshya Sahayaks was to regularize their jobs on the day of their joining. Now these teachers become regular employees of the government after continuing their teaching job for six years in different primary and upper primary schools of the state. The teachers, who came in a procession from Master Canteen square to lower PMG, shouted slogans protesting government apathy towards the teacher community.
Association president Sunil Kumar Pradhan said the state government has neglected sikshya sahayaks, who are trained and better qualified than other categories of teachers. “We want a long-term solution to our problem, but the state government doesn’t pay heed to our demands,” he added. Association general secretary Judhistir Sahu said they have staged demonstration in front of the state assembly for four times. “We had also staged a massive rally last year for fulfillment of their demands, but the government didn’t solve their issue,” he added.
