Four days after chief minister Naveen Patnaik sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention in the Mahanadi water-sharing dispute between Odisha and Chhattisgarh, the state government urged Chhattisgarh to stop constructions along the river.
In a letter to his Chhattisgarh counterpart Vivek Dhand, Odisha chief secretary A P Padhi asked him to stop the construction of projects like Kelo, Arpa, Sondhar, Sukhanalla, Ghumariya, Mongra II and Samodanisda II in Mahanadi’s upstream.
Padhi, in the letter, urged him to put all future projects planned by the Chhattisgarh government over the river on hold. He also sought the release of water to Odisha through the barrages already constructed.
