Somnath Bharti Surrenders Before Police: Hours after getting Anticipatory bail AAP MLA Somnath Bharti surrendered before police in connection with domestic violence case.
Former Delhi Law Minister and MLA of Malviya Nagar Somnath Bharti surrendered himself at a police station in Wednesday connection with a alleged domestic abuse filed against him by his wife.
Surprisingly Bharti surrendered just hours after being provided anticipatory bail till September 17 who had approached the High Court on Tuesday.
While granting anticipatory bail for two days, the court directed the Delhi police to file a status report till September 17.
Bharti’s lawyer argued that the complaint filed by Lipika is not true and it is an attempt to damage the reputation of Bharti.
Mr Bharti was facing charges under domestic violence alleged by his wife Lipika Mitra who filed a complaint against him saying that Bharti was torchering her ever since his their marriage and also tried to kill her.
Lipika Mitra in her complaint alleged him of harassment dowry, attempt to murder of Lipika Bharti and her unborn child, torturing by having dogs chase her and cheating by making false claims prior to marriage.
Based on the complaint of Lipika Mitra Bharti was booked under sections 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon),498A (cruelty towards partner in marriage), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating) and 506 (criminal intimidation) under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), besides under section 307 (attempt to murder), which attracts a punishment of up to 10 years in jail.
If taken into custody Somnath Bharti will become the fourth AAP MLA to be arrested in the last four months.Earlier three AAP MLAs including former Law Minister Jitendra Singh Tomar, Manoj Kumar and Surinder Singh have faced arrest by the Delhi Police in various cases.
