South Central Railway has earned Rs. 7,823 crore in goods transport till October this year, which is 13 per cent higher than the same period in the last year, a senior officer said in Bidar on Wednesday
“Over 6,700 safety drives were organised by the railway protection force and 46 new projects were launched. They were being closely monitored,” he said.
The Nirbhaya squad was formed to provide security to women passengers and efforts were being made to ensure that pregnant women get the lower berths. The Bidar-Kalaburgi railway line would be completed by December 2016. Around 80-90 per cent of the work is completed and only a tunnel in the Maragutti mountain is pending.
Engine rolling test of the line on both sides, from Khanapur to Maragutti and Kalaburgi to Maragutti is completed, he said. Nearly Rs. 900 crore of the project cost of Rs. 1,500 crore, had been spent already. The pit line in Khanapur near Bidar was expected to be completed by March, he said.
